The Indiana
Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA)
announced that they have received additional
approval from the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) to issue emergency food stamps to
residents of Grant, Huntington, Jefferson, Lawrence,
Pike, Ripley, and Washington counties who suffered
major losses in this month's flooding. Counties
previously granted approval to receive emergency
food stamps include Adams, Bartholomew, Brown, Clay,
Daviess, Dearborn, Decatur, Gibson, Greene,
Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Jackson, Jennings,
Johnson, Knox, Marion, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, Parke,
Posey, Putnam, Randolph, Rush, Shelby, Sullivan,
Vermillion, Vigo, and Wayne. The Disaster Food Stamp
Program (DFSP) may apply to county residents who
were affected by the disaster, including people not
currently receiving state assistance.
"We appreciate the swift federal response to the
disasters that have affected so many Hoosiers in the
past weeks," said FSSA Secretary Mitch Roob. "These
emergency food stamps are helping people get through
this difficult time of trying to regain all that was
lost."
Families in the newly eligible counties will have
seven days to apply beginning June 23, 2008. The
benefit period extends from June 6 through July 5,
2008. When applying, applicants should bring a state
driver's license or other form of identification,
such as work or school ID, birth certificate, wage
stub and a document that verifies their home
address. Applicants may be asked for their Social
Security Number and must reside or work in the
affected area. Please note, persons who purposely
provide wrong information on a food stamp
application may be denied food stamps and legal
action may be taken. For further details on
eligibility or to submit your application, contact
your local county Office of Family Resources, Monday
- Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or various One-Stop
Disaster Assistance Centers, Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.
